Quality Is Safety, Not Snobbery
"Premium" gets thrown around as a marketing word. Underneath it, quality is about three concrete things: what's in the plant, what's not in the plant, and how it was handled.
What's In the Plant
The cannabinoid + terpene profile is what you're paying for. A jar of well-grown Gumbo 88G carries 5–8% terpenes by weight; a bottom-shelf grower hits 0.5%. That difference is what distinguishes "cannabis that smells like nothing" from "cannabis that smells like the room when you walk in."
Steep Hill Labs and other state-certified labs report this on the COA (Certificate of Analysis) — total cannabinoids, terpene profile, and ratio.
What's Not In the Plant
Here's where cheap cannabis gets dangerous:
- Pesticides — illicit growers use myclobutanil, which converts to hydrogen cyanide when burned. Banned in the regulated market for that reason.
- Heavy metals — cadmium and lead from poor soil or hydroponics. Plants bio-accumulate them.
- Microbials — mold, yeast, aspergillus. Particularly bad for immunocompromised users.
- Residual solvents in concentrates — butane, propane, ethanol that didn't get purged.
Lab-tested product ($50/eighth) and lab-tested concentrate like ⬆️WHOLE MELT EXTRACTS LB SUGAR UNITS 🍯 are cheaper than untested product ($25/eighth) once you factor in the harm-avoidance.
How It Was Handled

A premium jar requires:
- Clean grow — soil or hydro, no synthetic pesticides
- Right harvest window — too early = no terpenes, too late = degraded THC → CBN
- Slow dry (10–14 days, 60°F, 60% RH)
- Proper cure (2–8 weeks in glass, burping daily)
- Cold storage until shelf
Cheap product skips dry and cure to hit the market faster. That's why it tastes like hay.
What "Premium" Looks Like in Practice
| Marker | Premium | Bottom-shelf |
|---|---|---|
| Smell out of the jar | Sharp, distinct, terpene-loud | Faint, hay-like |
| Trichome coverage | Frosted, sparkly | Patchy or none |
| Cure | 2–8 weeks | Skipped |
| Lab-tested | Yes — COA available | No |
| Total terps | 2–8% | Under 1% |
Why We Price Where We Price
Our flower like PINK VERSACE INDOORS 💗💰 or Dark matter sits at the higher end because the upstream growers we work with do the dry, the cure, and the lab work. You pay for the quality controls upstream, not just the bag at the end.
